Why These Tours Are Unique

Capturing candid shots in Morocco can be challenging — many scenes you photograph are usually staged rather than naturally candid. On Morocco Photo Tours for US Travelers, I help clients overcome this, using every technique at my disposal to create more natural, authentic images. I also leverage local contacts with years of experience, especially in remote areas, to access rare spots. These contacts assist with logistics while I guide you creatively to get the shots you want.

Personalized Tours

Unlike standard itineraries, every Morocco Photo Tour for US Travelers is fully personalized. We avoid tourist crowds, explore hidden gems, and adapt routes to maximize photographic opportunities.
I focus on creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere, adding extras along the way to ensure each client enjoys a fully tailored photography experience.

Photography Opportunities

  • Street & candid photography in Moroccan medinas
  • Desert landscapes and dramatic sunset shots
  • Wildlife (rare species require longer preparation)
  • Portraits with local communities (ethical, staged, or candid)

Note: Advanced wildlife photography for remote species requires months of preparation. Short 10–14 day tours focus on the most accessible and photogenic subjects.

On Morocco Photo Tours for US Travelers, we prioritize well‑worn paths at safe times, avoid risky areas at night, and stay in accommodations vetted for security. Local contacts help with reliable transport and smooth logistics, reducing typical travel risks.

I pay special attention to protecting your gear and well‑being: avoiding crowded tourist traps if possible, staying alert to local conditions, and offering guidance about respectful behavior and local customs.

My name is Helena Vân, a photographer from Vietnam. Before I ever picked up a camera, I watched a film set in Casablanca—and from that very moment, I fell in love with Morocco. I had always dreamed of visiting this country, of experiencing the traditional leather craft villages of Fez, and of capturing authentic travel photos filled with dramatic backlighting and the soul of Moroccan people.

I spent a lot of time thoroughly researching and revisiting countless websites, and that’s how I came across Esteban’s page—a passionate photographer who documents Morocco so beautifully. I was immediately drawn to his images and decided to reach out via email, hoping to find a photo tour that would fit my vision. Esteban replied warmly and kindly, and from the very beginning, he proved to be not only professional but also incredibly thoughtful.

He initially sent me a 9-day itinerary that included Rabat and Marrakech. However, when I shared my intention of creating a photo book on Morocco—and that I planned to stay two extra days in Marrakech at the end to rest before flying back to Vietnam—he didn’t hesitate to customize the trip. He even added new destinations that required him to drive an extra 500 kilometers, as a gift to support my project.

Though I told him I didn’t need dinner, he still surprised me with fresh fruit and detox water—small gestures that spoke volumes about his care and kindness. This journey became so much more than a photography trip. Thanks to Esteban, I saw Morocco not only through my lens but also through the heart of someone who deeply loves this land.

Esteban is far more than a tour guide—he’s a true photographic companion, someone who helped me experience Morocco in the fullest and most meaningful way. If there were a scale above 10, I’d rate him ten times over. An exceptional person—genuine, generous, and truly inspiring.

Dear Helena,

Thank you so much for your kind words! I enjoyed the journey with you just as much as you did with me! I hope we’ll meet again in this life! 🙂

The giant hazelnut you gave me at the end of the trip was absolutely delicious!

I have dabbled in photography for a long time, but never taken the time to try and make myself

a better photographer. And I have been fascinated by Morocco for a long time. So now that I

am retired, I wanted to plan a trip to which brought these two interests together. I began to

look for phototours in Morocco and quickly found a number of possibilities. These were

generally small- or mid-sized group tours led by an experienced photographer, mostly including

luxury travel and accommodation. Even though I was less interested in the luxury and more

interested in Morocco and Moroccans, I’m sure I could have picked one of these and found it

enjoyable and instructive. Instead, I came across the name of a Hungarian photographer who

specializes in Morocco and knows the country very well. Esteban Sanchez (aka Istvan Szori) is a

wonderful photographer (https://estebansanchez.hu/gallery/) who offers photo workshops in

Morocco and is keen to work with prospective clients to craft an itinerary that will meet almost

any need. These workshops can be for a single individual (as was the case for me) or a small

group (phototours.moroccoatgmail.com).

We communicated by email to plan an itinerary that started and ended in cities (Marrakech and

Agadir) but spent most of the time exploring small and interesting towns and villages, and

driving quite long distances between different regions of the country. Accommodations were

always comfortable and meals were good; I was not interested in 4- or 5-star hotels (and these

were simply not available in most of the places we visited.) Apart from the two aforementioned

cities, we spent time in the Imlil Valley, among the lower peaks of the Atlas Mountains, in the

small town of Foum Zguida on the edge of the Sahara and among the dunes in the desert itself,

along the breathtaking Atlantic Coast south of Agadir, with several fascinating stops along (and

out of) the way.

Esteban was easy to get along with and readily adapted to my pace and interests. As

mentioned, he is an excellent photographer, but he is also a very good teacher, helping me to

find good shooting locations and subjects, and guiding me to make best use of my camera and

lenses, and to optimize camera and lens settings for different situations. His feedback in

reviewing my images was positive and constructive but he was never patronizing or overly

enthusiastic about an image that was not up to scratch. We concentrated on landscapes and

people but his expertise is much broader as can be seen from his portfolio.

Almost everywhere we went, Esteban knew local people who were familiar with nearby

communities and people, local flora and fauna and landscapes, etc. and these individuals

helped him arrange visits to locations of photographic interest such as the homes of Berber

villagers, a nomad encampment in the dessert, and a location where two Berber women were

weaving a carpet.

During the trip, I became a better and more confident photographer, learned much about

Morocco and Moroccan people, and enjoyed spending time with Esteban. I would encourage

anyone who wants to improve their photographic skills while spending time in Morocco, to get

contact him as a first step.

Dear Bill, thank you very much for the review — it took me about 2-3 months to finally get it up on my website. I had similar experiences with you as well; I got to know a kind, friendly, and not least, an exceptionally cultured person in you! Thanks again!
