FIFA World Cup 2030: A “Moral Failure” or Progress?
As Morocco prepares to take the global stage for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a disturbing reality is unfolding behind the scenes. International animal welfare groups (IAWPC) and celebrities like Mark Ruffalo and Jane Goodall are sounding the alarm over what they call a “mass slaughter” of the country’s stray dog population.
The Heartbreaking Reality:
- 3 Million Lives at Risk: Estimates suggest up to 3 million stray dogs are being targeted to “sanitize” host cities like Marrakech, Casablanca, and Agadir before international fans arrive.
- Inhumane Methods: Reports from CNN and witness testimonies describe systematic night-time shootings, poisoning with strychnine, and the use of unmarked vans to round up animals for “fake dispensaries.”
- A “Legal Vacuum”: While the government points to a new draft law (Law 19-25) intended to promote humane TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) programs, local municipalities often continue with brutal “traditional” methods.
Why This Matters to Us:
As photographers, we see the real Morocco—the one the stadiums won’t show. These animals are often beloved community members, and their loss is a blow to the country’s authentic spirit. The World Cup should be a celebration of unity, not built on a foundation of hidden suffering.

Timeless Elegance: Dolce & Gabbana’s Ramadan 2026 Collection
While the latest fashion news may be datelined from Marrakech, the core of the new Dolce & Gabbana Exclusive Ramadan 2026 collection is a broader tribute to Middle Eastern grace and Italian craft. This season, the “Desert Echoes” campaign—shot by Nima Benati—moves away from specific regional folklore, focusing instead on a universal sense of luxury that blends the brand’s Sicilian roots with modest aesthetics.
Style & Sophistication
The collection skips the heavy traditional textures of Morocco in favor of lightweight, fluid fabrics like silk, satin, and chiffon. The silhouette is defined by:
Pajama-style sets and long skirts that transition from Iftar to Suhoor.
Flowing tunics and caftans designed for effortless movement.
The Palette: From Sand to Jewels
Contrary to the intense, earthy colors often associated with the Red City, this lineup balances a delicate atmosphere with bold accents:
- Soft base tones: Powder pink, sky blue, and sandy beige.
- Jewel highlights: Deep emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue for a touch of drama.
The look is completed by the new Eleganza jewelry line and crystal-embellished Sicily bags, proving that true elegance knows no borders—even if our hearts are currently in Marrakech.

Morocco Steps Up Winter Preparedness Ahead of Cold-Weather Risks
Morocco’s Ministry of Interior has intensified nationwide preparedness measures in anticipation of potential winter weather challenges during the 2025–2026 season, acting under the guidance of King Mohammed VI.
Working closely with government institutions and relevant sectors, authorities have instructed regional governors and provincial officials to strengthen on-the-ground monitoring and closely follow changing weather conditions. The goal is to ensure rapid, coordinated responses and reduce risks for residents, particularly in vulnerable areas.
A central Command and Monitoring Center has been activated within the Ministry of Interior, while regional alert and monitoring committees are now fully operational as part of the national cold-wave response plan. This plan has been updated with new field data, expanded coverage, and more flexible intervention methods to better address real conditions on the ground.
The initiative focuses on populations living in villages across 28 provinces and prefectures, offering continuous field support tailored to the specific climatic and geographic risks of each region. Central and local services have been mobilized to maintain constant surveillance, ensure the supply of essential goods and heating materials, and pre-position logistical resources along roads that may become isolated during severe weather.
Additional actions include distributing food supplies, blankets, firewood, and livestock feed, providing urgent assistance when needed, maintaining road access and telecommunications, and safeguarding key transport routes.
The ministry emphasized that public authorities remain fully mobilized to protect lives and property, reduce hardships, and respond effectively to extreme winter conditions. Residents — especially those in high-risk zones — are urged to stay alert, follow official safety guidance, and exercise extra caution when traveling, particularly on routes vulnerable to weather-related disruptions.
This heightened state of readiness follows recent extreme weather incidents in cities such as Safi and Fez, which caused significant damage and underscored the importance of proactive winter preparedness.
Direct Flights to the USA: Royal Air Maroc Expands Its Global Network from Casablanca
Royal Air Maroc is preparing for a major international expansion that will significantly strengthen Morocco’s air connectivity – including direct flights to the United States. As part of a long-term strategy to turn Casablanca into a global aviation hub, the national carrier will launch a new wave of routes starting in 2026.
The expansion will introduce multiple non-stop connections across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, reinforcing Royal Air Maroc’s role as a key link between continents. Among the highlights are direct long-haul routes to the U.S., including Los Angeles, alongside increased frequencies to American destinations such as Miami and Washington.
According to Royal Air Maroc CEO Hamid Addou, these new routes represent the next phase of the airline’s growth plan. Since 2023, the carrier has added around ten aircraft to its fleet, increased flight frequencies on strategic routes, and opened nearly twenty international destinations. The 2026 rollout will add at least ten more routes, further boosting Morocco’s global accessibility and supporting tourism and economic development.
The expansion combines strengthened medium-haul routes with extended long-haul services, supported by the arrival of new aircraft. Earlier announcements confirmed direct flights from Casablanca to Saint Petersburg in January 2026 and Los Angeles in June 2026 — marking a key step in expanding Morocco’s direct links to the United States.
From April 2026, Royal Air Maroc will also launch new routes from Casablanca to Pointe-Noire, Tripoli, Beirut, Bilbao, and Alicante, followed by Palma de Mallorca in June. Italy will see a new Casablanca–Verona connection, while France will gain a Casablanca–Lille route in July 2026.
In parallel, the airline plans to increase frequencies on several long-haul routes, including São Paulo, Miami, Washington, and Dubai, operated with new aircraft offering upgraded cabins, improved comfort, and enhanced onboard connectivity.
With this expansion, Royal Air Maroc aims to position Morocco as a major international gateway, improve passenger experience, and support growing tourism flows. Tickets for the new routes will be available for purchase starting December 15 through the airline’s official sales channels.
